The festival of colours, Holi is a famous festival of India which is celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country. Some of the places like Mathura and Vrindavan are well known for Holi celebration in a different style. This festival falls in the month of March and also marks the beginning of Spring season. Although Holi is celebrated in different ways in different states of the country but the spirit remains the same which is “victory of good over evil”. It is also a great festival wherein people forget all grudges against each other and hug each other forgetting everything.
The festival spans over two days. On the eve of the first day people gather together and light up a bonfire called Holika depicting good always wins. The next day is called Dhulandhi when people play Holi with gulal (dry colour) and water. Delicious sweet gujiya is made at home by the women.
